Today I took part in the 35th Tour de L’Île de Montreal. It was my third mass cycling event: a few years back I participated in New York’s Five Boro Bike Tour and last year I joined some 30000 cyclists at Moscow’s Veloparade. Both those events were spoiled by rainy weather, therefore I hoped for better luck this time.
Alas, the skies didn’t get the memo and it was raining at varying intensity from start to finish. I was looking forward to a leisurely ride through car-free streets, instead I pedaled quite hard just to get it over with. Crossing the finish line, I was soaking wet.
Should I stay away from these events to spare myself the disappointments?
