It’s winter here in the southern hemisphere and it periodically snows in the Andes this time of year. Sep7imo Dia’s equipment trucks had to cross the Andes to get from Argentina to Peru. There was a heavy snowfall and the trucks were stuck at a mountain pass. For a week. Of course, the show’s Premiere in Lima was delayed for a week as well.
On the bright side, Lima boasts one of the best food scenes in the world and we took advantage of our free time to explore it. In a week, we went to Lima’s top 3 restaurants: Central, Maido and Astrid & Gaston. All three are on Pellegrino’s Top 10 Latin American restaurants and part of the World’s Top 50. Each offered a different take on the awesome Peruvian cuisine: Central – tour of Peru’s biodiversity; Maido – Peru’s #1 Nikkei experience; Astrid & Gaston – a contemporary touch to the traditional Peruvian meal. Each was a unique sensual experience.
However, as a guest to some of the world’s best restaurants, I was greatly underdressed (Julie fared a bit better): amongst the trucks stuck in the mountains was the one with our luggage, so we only had our hiking clothes to wear.
This week in numbers:
3 – of the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” visited
41 – meal courses consumed in these restaurants
