Since it was going to be the longest ride of the trip, I started earlier than on the previous days. Given that the weather might or might not cooperate, it seemed like a reasonable precaution.
Today, I followed the Camino to the letter—most walkers, however, skipped over to the Via Aquitana, which is shorter. If not for the cold (it was close to 0°C when I left), the day was actually quite pleasant: the road was flat, the weather calm and sunny, though the distance was a bit long.
I made it to León in time to catch some Easter processions. The city center was lively, with people everywhere. I did a quick tour around the historic center; I think it’s worth a longer visit. It’s also along the route of another trip I might take someday.
Today in numbers:
103 km – distance cycled
11 — kings are buried in Basílica de San Isidoro in Leon
~4000 — tons of Cecina de Leon (dried beef) produced annually
910 — León became the capital of the Kingdom of León
