10/18/18 – Lost my Gore on the GOR
Last night when I got in my tent, I hoped that the rain would stop shortly after. But it didn’t, it rained the entire night. When I left the campground in the morning, it was still drizzling and all my gear was moist when I packed. Moreover, I lost my rain jacket, my expensive Gore jacket. When I got caught by the rain later this afternoon, I didn’t have anything to put on. I either forgot it in the hostel in Melbourne or left it on a bench when I was setting up the tent and somebody took it.
I stopped at Kenneth River to see koalas in their natural habitat, but because of the weather or the bad timing I had no luck. At least there were quite a few parrots.
I guess I was preoccupied with something because I passed Appolo Bay, the last place to have a lunch and get groceries before I stopped for the night. I only had a few granola bars and 3/4 of a bottle of water with me. It will have to last until lunchtime tomorrow.
When I reached Cape Otway campground, I opted for a bunk bed in a shared room instead of my tent, as it was still wet. Let me tell you, they are really milking it here: it cost me over 30 USD with facilities located across the street. At the very tip of Cape Otway there’s a lighthouse, but there’s a catch – you have to pay to take a look at it because it is fenced off so far away.
But hey, at least there was a heater and electric outlets in the room, and I was the only guest.
