I covered more than 5,000 km this year — a respectable distance, especially considering that last year I didn’t take any trips at all. I’m quite happy with the outcome, not just for the mileage but for the experiences along the way.
I cycled through several countries, though in Germany and Switzerland only for a few hours each. Along the route, I tasted nearly fifty different beers and, for the first time, Julie joined me on a long-distance ride where we sampled a generous range of Armagnacs. The shortest trip lasted just two days, but once again, Julie was by my side.
I may not have ventured to exotic destinations, yet France and its neighbors offered plenty to see, eat, and discover. There’s still much more to explore in Europe’s backyard — and I already have plans brewing for next year.
